Housing production – positive outlooks for the future
As a growing municipality, Sodankylä has a demand for residential construction.
The municipality’s outlook for new jobs and, consequently, new residents is positive. Significant growth is expected in the mining industry and tourism, among other sectors. There is a particular need for good condition studio-, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.
The municipality can support private housing construction by participating in the construction of new homes with a 20-25% ownership share. The municipality of Sodankylä aims to be involved in a project comprising 10-20 homes as a single owner (2-4 homes).
In the future, the municipality of Sodankylä will focus its housing production primarily on Kirkonkylä and Luosto, where demand is highest in relation to supply and where zoning capacity for new projects exists.
Metsävainio
The Metsävainio area is bordered by the Jeesionjoki river. This peaceful and beautiful area close to the city center is suitable for small-scale housing construction and rental housing production. The local zoning plan allows for rapid construction. There is continuous demand for housing in the Metsävainio area, but supply is still limited.
Luosto
Luosto is a growing center for tourism, with an increasing need for housing for workers and seasonal residents. A completely new residential area is being built in Kantapäävaara, offering unique opportunities for both leisure and permanent living. The soundscape is silence, the landscape is the mystical Ukko-Luosto, and the neighborhood is Pyhä-Luosto National Park.
